Afghans and Somalis brawl in Hungarian refugee camp
Afghan and Somali refugees got into a fight in the refugee camp of Debrecen in eastern Hungary on Wednesday afternoon and a Somali woman attacked one of the police who was trying to separate the fighters.
Six Somali men and one Afghan man, plus the Somali woman were arrested, a police spokesperson said. The men suffered injuries to their heads and arms during the fight and police seized knives and home-made weapons.
Although police officers remained in the camp following the incident, a second fight broke out later in the afternoon, involving around 20 people. An Iraqi citizen was arrested for kicking a police officer and a Lebanese and a Palestinian were also booked for vandalism.
The spokesperson said conditions had calmed down by evening but re-enforced police patrols would be maintained to guarantee public safety in the area.
