Academy of Sciences president campaigns for Hungarian villages
A large number of those living in villages live in such dire poverty that they cannot improve their situation by relying on their own resources, recently elected Academy of Sciences president József Pálinkás told a Tuesday conference organised by the Academy and the periodical A falu ("The Village").
The former Fidesz MP described rural job creation as a top priority for politicians, so that villages can retain their economic viability, adding that state administrative offices must not be allowed to leave villages for reasons of economy. Pálinkás said saving small villages is a community task which could repay a debt to the past when villages provided the urban bourgeoisie, workers and intellectuals.
