Hungarian globetrotter walks 4,000 kilometers
A thirty-year-old Hungarian economist has walked over 4,000 kilometres and recently left Tehran for southern Iran on his global tour which started nearly six months ago.
David Simon, a resident of north-eastern Budapest, intends to cover nearly 60,000 kilometres in 40 countries over a period of five years.
Since setting out carrying but a back-pack with basic necessities early in February, he has been walking some 24-35 kilometres a day and only a handful of times was he forced to hitch-hike in order to safely reach his destination by the end of the day.
He has chosen not to take a GPS device and rely on a compass and traditional map-reading instead. He usually camps, stays with families or uses CouchSurfing to find shelter for the night.
The next destination in the globetrotter's journey is Dubai, to be followed by India and South-East Asia. He plans to reach Manila, the last stop in this stretch of the journey, in the autumn of 2011.
