Hungary will commemorate the 162nd anniversary of 1948-49 Revolution and War of Independence on Monday, March 15. The government is organizing several events which can be of interest to tourists, the Prime Minister's Office announced.

On the March 15 national holiday, you can take a hansom cab across Budapest's first permanent bridge, the Chain Bridge. Between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., a hussar camp will be set up on Roosevelt tér, at the Pest end of the bridge, where fifty hussars on horseback will give equestrian performances, and children will have the opportunity to ride a horse.

Starting at 11 a.m., acclaimed Hungarian actors and hundreds of dancers will give an open-air, live performance in front of the National Museum, re-enacting key events of the 1848 Revolution.

Until March 14, an exhibition on hussars will be displayed in the garden of the National Museum. Programs at the venue will include live recruitment and folk dances, and visitors will also have a chance to play a role in a short film. On March 14, an animated 3D lightshow will be projected onto the façade of the museum.

Until March 19, eighteen life-sized statues of hussars in various uniforms will be exhibited at major junctions throughout the city, each representing one of the hussar regiments serving in the Hungarian army in the 1840s.

Admission is free to all programs.
