Hungarians live shorter, less healthy lives than EU peers, survey reveals
Hungarians fared poorly in a health report comparing EU countries in terms of longevity and quality of life, the report's authors told a press conference on Thursday.
Gathering data from the period 1987-2007, Hungarians were found to live the shortest lives and were most burdened by health problems in comparison with the other countries. The frequency of cerebrovascular diseases, hyperthermia and locomotor diseases was higher in Hungary than in the other countries surveyed, though numbers have shown improvement in the two decades examined, data prepared by Health Monitor Research and Consultancy showed.
Cancer, though less frequent in Hungary, is a higher killer than in other countries, the data showed. This means, however, that Hungarian cancer patients live shorter than their EU peers, Jozsef Vitrai, the head researcher, said.
