An exhibition of yet unpublished photo portraits made by outstanding Hungarian photographer Laszlo Varkonyi was opened at the headquarters of the Association of Hungarian Journalists (MUOSZ) in Budapest on Thursday.

The 100 images in the exhibition entitled "Faces of the 20th Century" have been selected from Hungarian News Agency MTI's photo archives of 13 million original negatives and 5 million sample prints, MTI President Matyas Vince said at the opening ceremony.

The pictures, taken between 1930 and the 1950's, include portraits of well-known Hungarian politicians, artists and entertainers, as well as people of international fame ranging from Otto Klemperer to Zsazsa Gabor.

The guest of honour at the opening ceremony was Mihaly Tabanyi, Hungary's most popular piano accordion player in the 1940's and 50's and one of Varkonyi's models.
