Police cleared on Sunday afternoon the entire area of the Hungexpo Budapest fair centre in order to carry out a bomb search after receiving a phone call by a man who threatened to set off a device. No device was found, a Budapest police spokeswoman told MTI.

A travel fair was being held at the centre. Police cleared the area calling on visitors to leave the site of the fair and the parking area. The measures affected around 15,000 people, MTI learnt.

No explosion or injuries have been reported.

The fair and another six accompanying events had to be ended earlier than the scheduled closing time of 6pm.
