Budapest Airport plans to launch ultra last minute service

Budapest's international Ferihegy Airport and travel agencies operating charter flights plan to launch an ultra last minute service to reduce the number of unsold organised trips, national daily Nepszava said on Thursday.

The new service will allow adventurous tourists to select a trip which has not been fully booked until the last 24 hours before the departure. The ticket has to be booked no later than four hours before the scheduled departure of the flight.

The airport plans to open a special kiosk on terminal Ferihegy-2 to sell tickets to such passengers in May.

The idea was triggered by a big drop in tourism last year. In 2010 the turnover of the Hungarian tourism sector dropped by 10 to 15 percent, and that of travel agencies by 5 to 10 percent.

Last year Budapest Airport served over 8.1 million passengers, 300,000 fewer than a year before.

Budapest Airport PR Director Mihaly Hardy said that the ultra last minute service would most probably attract young people and more easy-going passengers.
