If you want to make the forums more active, why not move the "Hot Forum Topics" panel further up the front page? I don't mind admitting it took me a few months to discover it by accident. Timo is right that people are more likely to join or respond to fresh threads. |

Good suggestion Timo, I will discuss it with the management. Also the mark all as read button will come in useful. Adrian |

Duh, sorry - I meant on the top level, not once you have clicked through to an individual forum!

Is there any way to add when the last post was made on the forum titles? As someone new on the page, lots of the posts seem to be some time ago and an indication of the time since the last post shows those out of date or encourages someone to make a post. |

On Erik's previous point, we already have a version of Craigslist here, don't we? It's called http://startlap.hu.

Is there a way I could click a button and "catch up" on all the threads? ie. mark all un-read threads in a particular forum as read - no new posts. Thanks. |

Yes, this branching out of craigslist to our neighborhood is *very* interesting, and welcome. But I wonder if it will take off in other countries like it has in the states. (Actually, from what I gather, its popularity in the states is quite limited geographically.) The thing is, I think a lot of people aren't so keen about the totally stripped-down, un-moderated format. Meanwhile, unlike our free marketplace here on caboodle (have you checked it out?) you can't put up pictures! But as bandwidth and administration for something like this cost essentially nothing, there's not point in not giving it a try. Xanthippe, I feel your pain over the orange, but I swear that, once we get some ads in those columns, it'll be less of an eyesore. Meanwhile, to take some of the pain off, I'm not only going to start a topic for totally open threads, but I'm going to name it in your honor. So go fill it up! |

There's a pattern to the URL (web address) which you can guess: Try budapest.craigslist.org. There is very little there at the moment. The London one is just starting to take off. Google are posting jobs up there. p.s. Give my regards to Socrates. |

There's no link on craigslist.org for a Budapest page (though Prague is there). Somewhere else?

Xanthippe, Caboodle is more of a portal style site, but the kind of minimalist look/approach you might be looking for is something like craigslist. It's so simple, so plain, that it has laid waste a lot of the traditional advertising landscape in the US. Powerful community building. Not easy though. There's a good post on why Craigslist has been so successful (trans. destroyed all opposition) in the US. I've just had a scout around and craigslists are already set-up for Prague and Budapest, as well as any other capital in Europe. I think the BudapestSun, expatloop and all the other's with larger dependance on traditional marketing days are now numbered. |

There should be a general discussion/unspecified topic section on the forum. Also, i think the idea someone mentioned in the 'dating' section about having a 'language' section on the forum (for people who want to find Hungarian or English teachers/convo partners, or anything else) is a good idea. And... it should not be orange. Why not lovely Pestiside blue, or perhaps a nice Parliament piros? Aside from my own tastes, i think it looks far too perky and peppy to attract the kind of people who tend to gravitate towards Budapest rather than, say, Paris or Prague. |
