Well, yes, we have veered off topic. I suggest we continue this discussion in the start your own thread category.

In the meantime, unsolicited "hating" is not the same as voicing your opinion when asked to do so, whether it is done in a public forum or not.

And as for the comment about viewing Caboodle on a PDA, I find it a bit strange. What is your point? This is useful information for anyone with a PDA, why is it elitism? Slightly off the subject, (maybe) and a free plug (definitely), but so what?

Wasn't this topic opened for suggestions "how to make Caboodle better"? It's strange to see all this hating about Funzine and about Mr. Freeman, and to be honest, it seems a bit immature. Do you guys really have such a big problem with someone mentioning they might get more spam through whichever portal? On the other hand, I think it's always useful for a starting-up publication or project to get feedback, and Funzine can surely use some constructive criticism. But I'm afraid what all of you've said here wasn't either well-intended or very helpful. Everyone has a right to voice their opinion, but it should have its own place, like in an email sent to the Novottas. Also, your elitism is a bit funny: I love CaboodleErik's comment: "Aha - but someday soon you will be able to carry Caboodle around in your pocket. In fact, the site looks pretty good on some PDAs and internet-equipped mobiles." Thanks...

Well, FreemanDan did ask and he got a response. That was what he was looking for, right? He even suggested himself that the content needed work.

P.S. Why are we in this thread?

With respect Mr. Freeman, here's hoping you may guide Mr. + Mrs. Novotta and company at Funzine to clean up its act based on the free advice below.

PS it's getting late, what more can I say, except later...

Guys, for the record, you may know Dan Freeman is an energetic young chap who has been with Funzine for a short while. So he probably didn't take too kindly to the comments from CaboodleErik on Sep 27 2006 saying:

"Re Funzine itself, yes, the writing and editing is weak...they don't seem to know *whom* they are writing for...Funzine isn't good or cool enough to grab this audience's attention. of the 50,000 weekly copies they allegedly print (!) no more 1,000 even get flipped through."

here http://www.caboodle.hu/index.php?id=8&view=single_thread&thread_uid=178

Anyway, onto answering Dan's mention of XpatLoop.com in his post below, which was made on Oct 06 2006 after the comments above from Erik.

To be clear, the unconnected observations below by Dan need to be seen in full knowledge of the fact that registering with XpatLoop.com is totally secure.

For more about that just see here:
"QUALITY, SECURITY, AND RELIABILITY are the technical foundation's on which XpatLoop.com is built." http://www.xpatloop.com/about.php

Having double-checked Dan's incorrrect insinuation for any technical merit whatsoever (and found there is none) I privately let Dan know that he, and everyone else for that matter, is safe registering with the 'loop. To his credit Dan did reply, basically sending 'apologies' if his comment was read as saying anything other than Xpatloop is secure. He also encouraged me to report that fact here.

While am here might I say that probably Dan doesn't much like the comment below from rjley60:

"Budapest funzine is every bit as mentioned above. It should be called "How to be confused in Budapest" Words they try to be cool with are NOT current either. Very Corny."

Please don't take it personally Dan, you yourself say about Budapest Funzine: "I think the writing is pretty bad at present."

Now for what its worth, I totally agree with him about that, and with rjley60 and ErikCaboodle for that matter. Seems Adrian has answered for Caboodle.hu about the its potential spam issue and the matter is correctly closed - good on you for writing in and expressing your opinion Dan. Am sure you considered the aim of your post "at least worthy" as you do the aim of Funzine - obviously others disagree and do so with solid justifications.

With respect Mr. Freeman, here's hoping you may guide Mr. + Mrs. Novotta and company at Funzine to clean up its act based on the free advice below.

Best for luck,
Stephen

Would it be possible for e-mail addresses to be made private? There are a million programs scouring the web for these so that they can send you spam. I've seen an increase in my spam since registering here (and at Xpat Loop for that matter). Thanks

Hi guys,

Done a great job with the site and like it alot. I have noticed a few dodgy links (eg Link to the rally site in your Feature and a one external news link yesterday - can't remember which) and a few special character codes are not rendering properly. It'd be nice to sort these out as these tiney details can be really irritating. Keep up the good work,

michael
