HI, what could be the reason that the ''good'' restaurants have been shutting down whereas some are still there. If the customer base has decreased overall, then why are the not-so-good ones still afoat? can anyone tell me? is it that these good ones were pricey? so if a good restaurant is not pricey, should it survive in bp in these economic crisis? can anyone give me some idea of whats going on there?

Anyone heard of any other good restaurants that have recently closed/are rumored to be closing?

I didn't think M was all that - the decor was fantastic and the owner was a nice guy, so I was practically willing it to be good. The food was waaaay overpriced though, and everything on my plate was unmistakably either out of a packet or a can. It got what it deserved, as the food is better value, better quality and less pretentious at local competitors such as Dupla and Gyuri Bacsi.

Hey Ryan,

Thanks for your comment!

Check out chew.hu now, a few minutes after your posting yesterday three updates on 'restaurants that have closed' were posted.

In the meantime, it seems that Leroys at the Basilica is now open again, or so says my friend who had a drink there last week. As for M's ... sources tell me that the truth of the matter is that it's actually under construction. Time will tell.

Keep on keeping your eyes open, and thanks for your updates.

Monika.

I just happened upon the CHEW.hu article about restaurants that have gone belly-up, but the last rendition was April of this year.

M was one of my top 33 restaurants, but it has been "closed for remodeling" for months now. Rumor has it that it has been sold and will reopen. If this is so, the ambiance of the décor must not be changed or it will fall off of any "favorites' listing.

Almost forgot, Leroys Cafe near St. Stephan's Basilica is no longer there, but has been replaced with another restaurant. I loved the ambiance of Leroys at that location.

Well, I cannot say that I thought it was great, but the Articsoka was emptied out and vacant about a month ago. When I went to do a restaurant review last summer, the patio was empty with the exception of my 3 dining companions. The service was great, but the food was nothing special.

Two restaurants I really enjoyed have both bit the dust. One was CREAM Restaurant and Music Pub. The food and service were excellent each time I went with friends. It was a bit pricey, but the quality of the food and decor substantiated the cost. They are gone.

Alternatively, on the budget side, I loved Mama Zsofia's. The food was excellent, the quantity more than satisfying, and the service was top notch. The decor left much to be desired, but the friendliness made up for it.

Both were on Dohany in the 7th District and are now just fond memories.
