Notes: One of the oldest sweet shops in the country, the famous Hungarian poet Attila József (1905-1937) lived in the alcove above the cafe while attending university. While trying to earn a living as a poet and train to be a secondary teacher, he was expelled from the Szeged University in 1924 for a poem that was considered nationally heretical. It began: "I have no father, no mother, no country and no god..." Today there is a university named after him, and a statue at the University of Szeged.
