Notes: The Votive Church is the centerpiece of Szeged's 12,000-square-meter, enclosed Cathedral Square. Built after the flood of 1879, the church was erected in the hopes of God's protection from future floods. Construction of the church began in 1913 and was completed in 1930 in the neo-Romanesque style. It is Hungary's third-largest church and features two 93-meter towers. The square also serves as the country's largest open-air theatre where the "Szeged Open-Air Theater Festival" has been held every summer for the past 70 years.
On the northeastern corner of Dóm tér is the Serbian Orthodox Church (Görögkeleti szerb templom), which was built between 1773-1778 and is known for its iconostasis framed in pear tree wood, and Heroes' Gate.
