For a fine dining experience up on the Var, Rivalda is probably among the best choices available. We have eaten here on numerous occasions and have usually been very pleased. We have always found the service to be acceptable to good, the décor very appealing and the food to be of very high quality. Their menu tends to feature some game dishes, and I have had the wild boar soup, the pheasant and the venison and found all to be quite well prepared. The veal medallions and the medallion trio of veal, lamb and beef have also been good. The “coup de grace” desert for chocolate lovers has to be the Chocolate Ganache, which requires 15 minutes notice to prepare, but is worth the wait most of the time. Pricing is not cheap, but considering the location it is a reasonable value. Rivalda is definitely worth the visit, and delivers one of the few fine-dining experiences to be had by the palace.

Food is good and prices not unreasonable for the quality and the location. The staff are appalling, however. Unless you are a celebrity or obviously very wealthy, don't bother. First time I went at 9:15pm to be told they were closed (the website says they are open till late). Next time I went at 8:30pm and it seems I just managed to get served, although there were only two other tables occupied. It was all too much for the lazy, arrogant staff, however. I won't be going back

Some of the food is good and interesting, some of it not. Presentation is good. Waiters are somewhat lackadaisical. Prices are high. There are worse places up there, but there should be better. And there really isn't much of an alternative within walking distance. They also add a 10% service charge to the bill, it's stated at the bottom of the menu. Which explains, I guess, the non-caring attitude of the waiters. But I thought that was illegal here anyway.
