Who knows if the food is good? Typical crap Hungarian service. Apparently they want you order a drink as soon as you sit down, because asking for a drink list seems to bother them. One would think they have a variety of interesting beers, and I would like to see the choices. But the waiters are more interested in talking in groups and ignoring customers. After more than 10 minutes without anyone coming by, we got up and left. I told a manager on the way out, but he just shrugged his shoulders.

While we will continue for the time being to rank the more rustic Haxen Király as the best Bavarian eatery in Budapest, the sprawling Paulaner is more than decent. In addition to being Bp's most convincing brewpub (or only brewpub), its heaving plates of south-German specialties always hit the spot. Those who hate cheezy live music should beware, however, because on a recent visit an almost comically-bad combo was on hand to ruin the atmosphere with appalling renditions of equally horrendous international hits.
