I do not understand why people are happy to spend 8 or 10 thousand ft. in a "trendy" or "new" restaurant when Múzeum has simply all you need in a good restaurant for half the price. They have an impressive menu list, where traditional hungarian dishes are masterfully updated (last time I had kacsamell with saffron risotto). A good and not too expensive wine list. First class cutlery and tablecloths. Great ambience. Ok service can be slow, yes. You have to be careful because if somebody at your table orders a dish that takes much longer than average to prepare, they will let other dishes wait until they are ready all together. This is not a good policy, they should shift starting times instead so to deliver all at the right moment. Some dishes suffer from being left 15 minutes waiting, although on warmers. But frankly this is their only negative spot. For food and price/quality ratio, they win hands down over all other more fashionable venues in town. Ah, and servings are HUGE, so you are warned.

We decided in late 2005 to drop Múzeum from our list of Top 33 Restaurants in Budapest, simply feeling that there was something missing from the experience. While it was on the T33, the restaurant appeared with this capsule review: "One of Budapest's culinary landmarks, Múzeum offers a range of Hungarian classics and more contemporary dishes. The pleasantly lived-in dining areas were marred by the installation of a sushi-bar like cooler in the front, but it's still a solid place to take out-of-towners looking for a taste of old-time Budapest. Live piano music at night, and a great Saturday-only lunch special."
