Really high quality food and a great-looking environment, friendly staff. I've not tried everything there, but can certainly say the chocolates and salads are to die for. :D I understand they use organic and locally-sourced ingredients wherever possible, too.

Having lived in Budapst for two years, and followed up every recommendation as to what friends and colleagues consider "the best" cafes in town, I can say without any hesitation that Luckacs knocks all the others out of the ballpark. And the more I travel thru the country, the more I can say with increasing confidence that it is the best in Hungary. Sure the prices are more than run-of-the mill cafes, but those others often offer synthetic ingredients, unsmiling staff, smoke laden interiors, incorrect bills and run -of -the -mill menus. The Lukacs is a step back into history with its vintage chandeliers, silk covered walls and high mirrored ceilings. For breakfast, lunch, a pastry or organic gelato, they have never failed get my vote hands down -- and for many fewer forints than comparable fare in such a stunning setting, in other Euro capitals!

Great food, tasty cakes..excellent bread!! I don't know what people are complaining about. There are plenty of discount pastry shops all over the place, this is a place to go for a truely sublime culinary experience. I only wish there were more places like this in Hungary.

Grand interior, peaceful atmosphere to enjoy some quality food.
The carrot and ginger soup was the best soup i have tasted for a long long time, fresh and perfectly balanced.
I would also recommend their hot chocolate - dark, smooth and full of taste, every sip was a pleasure.
A good selection of home made cakes; especially enjoyed their chocolate 'torta'.
My overall view of Lukacs Cukraszda? Ingredients chosen with care, prepared with skill and presented in style. Definitely worth a try.

The most ridiculous pricing I have seen in Budapest 1200HUF for a pastry. 750 for an espresso. This was the first time I've been back since it was refurbished. In the past it's prices were literally a third of today's but we also didn't feel the prices back then justified the high cost. Now? It's joke. Even the waiter apologized for the high prices when I asked if they were serious before I walked out.

I agree I do not think this place deserves its rating. I took some friends there for lunch and the goats cheese salad was the smallest I have ever seen for an extortionate price. There were far fewer sweets to chose from than Gerbeaud, which is where I will be going next time.

I cannot believe that Lukacs is getting such a good Caboodle rating without the help of some funny business. Not that is was one of my favorites before, but it's now reopened as an unpalatable, overpriced palace of style.

Greater selection of mediocre sweets, not that you'll be able to afford it without taking out a second mortgage.
