Lower Town Church
Alsóvárosi Templom6700 Szeged, Mátyás király tér 26
|
Notes: This Franciscan monastery turned Roman Catholic church was completed in 1503 and is Szeged's only Gothic building. In the 18th century, a Baroque tower was added to the church, and the church's interior elements, including the altar, were stylized in Baroque fashion. The church's 1740 "Black Madonna" painting by András Morvai is frequently visited by Catholic pilgrims, and the church hosts an annual reconsecration festival in August.
