Kárpátia has several things going for it, chiefly a lavishly-decorated interior from the turn of the last century and a gypsy band that cranks out all of the old standards without too many jarring updates. And the food is just good enough to make it an acceptable spot to take visitors who want a taste of Budapest circa 1900, though no bargain. Note, however, that most of the charm is on the inside, meaning that it is probably off-limits during summer, when diners are steered to the tented outdoor dining area, which faces an interesting but somewhat grubby courtyard.
