Great food, great beer and friendly service. I normally avoid British pubs in foreign cities, but Kaledonia is unusually good.

I am sorry Tre. We have an upstairs because that's the way the building was and is when we took it over. We do our best to make best use of it. I know our prices in this area and they are certainly not high. "'Token" Scottish. Come in and talk to me. Born and brought up in Edinburgh. Zsuzsanna lived there for three years. My Chef is from Edinburgh. Really annoys me when people write on websites about places when they have no idea what they are talking about. I import 11 beers from Scotland, have 200 + whiskies and a Scottish chef and you accuse me of being "token". Please be careful about what you write.

Ok, i guess, just a bit boring. Why oh why do all these places have to have an "upstairs" and "downstairs"...whats wrong with having one open plan place. Due to this the atmosphere is lacking and with the relatively high prices it does not make for a great night out. Also the "token" trying to be Scottish (with mainly Hungarian staff) is kind of annoying.

went there recently for the Guinness night, due to being coerced into a furniture rearrangement job I missed the stellar discount they were doing at 17:59 and had to settle for 700 a pint... I also unfortunately missed out on getting any food as I got there after 10, definitely a case of sods law.

Anyhow, I do intend to return and get some of that haggis - might even do so today infact.

Must say though, I only drink/eat what I can get back home on rare occasions because
1) it's usually costlier (you can get a Dreher for 210Ft. in some places)
2) if you go somewhere foreign just to live like you do back home, you're a sad arse.

Was in the Cally on Easter Sunday - excellent venue to watch Permiership footy and drink the previous nights hangover away/develop tonights. The food was good - 8/10. I had the Edinburgher. Not too pricey - somewhere in the middle I'd say. Staff good and polite - we even got a 10% discount after picking up an advertising ticket deom our hotel.

Firstly, Vladimir is talking nonsense. We use beef, not pork, for our Edinburger. If he fancies a shopping trip with me one afternoon he is more than welcome to join me. Secondly Barry Ferguson - surely not thee BF - I have never been to an albanian bar, but can assure you that our Hungarian beer (Dreher) is as it should be and our draught Belhaven Best is as good as you'll find in town. And all the way from Dunbar just outside Edinburgh for 600 HUF for a pint (0.52L).

I finally tried the Edinburger earlier this month it was most assuredly made out of pork instead of beef. (asked for it medium-rare but arrived medium-well) Furthermore it was heavily spiced, a common problem with sub-standard burgers here in Bp, which stayed with me until the next day. I would have brought this to the attention of the manager but I was very hungry and didn't notice the pork taste until I had wolfed down half of it. I didn't want to appear to be a cad and send it back at that point.

Only the bottled beer is good enough - the rest is poor.More albanian like scotish.

Finally tried this place in August, 2007 on the strength of several happy hour recommendations as well as the Burger Wars commentary on Chew.hu. Kaledonia does indeed offer a very interesting burger called the Edinburgh Burger that comes complete with a fried egg. It is a quite large burger, with lettuce, tomato, red onion and aforesaid egg on a decent sesame seed bun. It did not come with cheese, though I did not ask for it, so it may be available. I also asked for some mayo on the side, and they were happy to accommodate. The platter also comes with reasonable portion of what I would call steak fries – but they call chips.
I ordered the burger medium-rare, and it actually showed up in that condition. Do note that you will often have to request your cooking pleasure as it is rare in Hungary to be asked. After slathering my burger feast with some mayo, I went to town eating and enjoying it. It was large enough and juicy enough that the bun was soon disintegrating under the strain. Nevertheless, I generally view this as a good sign – meaning the burger is substantial and juicy, and the last few bites will present a serious challenge of holding it all together. And about the egg… it was cooked medium-well so that there was not runny egg yolk everywhere – but the egg flavor was still present and not an overcooked lump of yolk. I was told that the burger can be ordered sans egg if this aspect puts you off. All in all though, quite a nice burger and worthy of trying – especially for burger/egg lovers like myself.
A last comment: Zsuzsa is the manager there and she happened to tend to my needs. She was quite attentive, friendly and happy to engage about their food and even their upcoming plans and events. Quite a pleasant experience in the face of many places here where the servers or managements seem to not care one whit.
