Notes: An arch near Cathedral Square pays tribute to the leaders of Hungary during the years it was an independent nation, after WW1 but before WW2. During this time "White Terror" took place, where nationalists in the country persucated Jews, socialists, communists and gypsies. Some sources say that 3,000 people were murdered, but this number is disputed. During this time Miklós Horthy led Hungary, however it is also disputed as to whether or not he orchestrated the acts to galvanize power.

The fresco on the inside of this gate was painted Aba Novak Vilmos and though it depicts the patron saints of Saint George, Saint Borbála, and figure of Christ resurrected it is said to glorify Horthy and Hungarian nationalism. The painting was covered over during communism, and only recently restored.

Near to the gate is the status of the martyrs of Arad, which honors the thirteen generals who died at the battle of Arad, a Romanian city with a large ethnic Hungarian population.
