We went to Hanoi with a large group to celebrate a friend's birthday. His girlfriend had pre-arranged with the kitchen, so they could cope with an extra fifteen or so customers. They could not. The service was pathetic. It took about three hours to get the food, which was OK but nothing to write home, or even to Pestiside about. What was particularly annoying was the stream of Vietnamese regulars who got served in front of us, while we sat waiting. I would not recommend this place and I would not go back.

I just had a pho Bo at the Goa Restaurant on andrassy. The soup it self could have had a little more spice (maybe this is just my own opinion) but overall, it was wonderfull with thin slices of tender beef, rice noodles, bean sprouts and all the rest of the trimmings. This was the closest resembelence since i visited hanoi last summer. Apperantly, the chef is this american guy who spent many years in asia and is trying to re-create a lot of the foods he was cooking there. Keep it up as you are getting close to the real thing

One note about Hanoi -- don't surprise them with big groups. We showed up one night with eight people, and ended up eating one dish at a time over a period of about four hours while the small kitchen tried to cope with our oversized order. Not to say that it wasn't great. Where else can you get a decent bowl of pho in this town?

I've had nothing but good food and good service here, but a friend of mine went recently and encountered the restaurant's sole Hungarian waiter. "What do you recommend?" asked my friend, to which the waiter responded, without a hint of irony, "Another restaurant." WTF?

Ha Noi has been on the Top 33 mostly because it is Budapest's only Vietnamese restaurant, and we just love Vietnamese food. However, we have received numerous complaints from patrons who have been forced to wait more than an hour for even a spring-roll. We are still going to keep Ha Noi on the T33, but as of today are giving it a flashing arrow, meaning that it may soon be dropped off the list.
