We just went in for a drink. The venue is nice despite the other comments. I think it has a close, earthy charm. The beer wasnt cheap [relatively] and i hate sitting on stools but if you can get a decent seat then this would be a good place for a drink and a chat. The staff were quite friendly and the service seemed good for drinks. This would be a good place for a first drink or to kill some time.

I live just around the corner and often take visiting friends there. The food is good, the portions massive and the service was better than the usual Budapest standard. We often take a doggy bag home too.
But last night was an embarassment. Waited 1 and a half hours for our food. When we spoke o the waiter twice about it he offered no word of appology for the long delay, just pointed out that all the other guests were waiting just as long. Great!
Spoke to the manager about my dissatisfaction as I left but he didn't seem to care either.
Never again.

Walking into the For Sale puts one in mind of the seediest dive imaginable. The free peanuts by the bushel (shell accoutrement scattered throughout) and the ubiquitous ephemera attached to the ceilings do not up the ante on the class factor. However, the location at the southern end of Vaci Utca and across the street for the Nagy Csarnok serves the place with considerable traffic, and truth be told, the offerings at least in the soup department outshine anything available in the nearby market hall or tourist areas. I have only had soups here, and at first the 990 ft price tag seems excessive. However, on second take, one discovers that the soup portion is easily enough for a meal – it could feed three persons a “normal” soup portion. The soup also comes with genereous baskets of bread, hence the reason the soup is a meal. I have been here several times, and often with my native Hungarian friends, and all seem to agree that not only are the soup portions large, but the soup quality is excellent – the native Bableves is probably the best around. While I have not eaten anything else here, I have also seen the portions for the entrees, and they seem equally huge. So if you can ignore the décor, can stomach your food in a dive, and are looking for a lot of food – this could be your place. Some reviews have noted the prices, but folks, in the Vaci Utca area, pricing is relative. For the best soups around, I heartily recommend For Sale as a great lunchtime stop after a morning of strolling the Vaci or trolling the market.
