I use the American Clinic (now firstmed) for many years and am happy with the professional care that I receive. It is maybe the most expensive clinic in Hungary but not more than other expat clinics in other countries where I have lived. Yes. The American Clinic might be 10 times more expensive than the 'Hungarian average' but the average Hungarian clinic or hospital does not take my call at any time in English, give me an appointment, and provide very friendly service in English. I have had a couple of problems and price issues with my bills over the years but the clinic has always resolved these. I can't speak for the two women who seem to be overcharged but I wonder if they complained or asked to speak with a manager or Dr. Sue. As a loyal patient of the clinic I felt I should write about my very positive experiences with this clinic. It is probably not for everyone but then again I don't think it is as excessive as some people are making it out.

I have another story. I paid 50.000 for a doctor and the visit duration was literary 1 minutes. He simply wrote a prescription. I had to visit the same doctor in another private clinic and this time I just paid 10.000. This is robbery.

Recently I paid 140.000 HUF for a simple x-ray. According to my insurance company it is 10 times higher than Hungarian average and 3 times higher than the one in a private clinic in UK. This is ridiculous.
And plus I had to paid one hour in a crowded and terrible waiting room.

Be aware. They are exceptionally expensive. The fees can go up to 4 times than other private clinics.

I'm sure this place is adequate for people whose health care is paid for by their employers, but average expats on a budget should definitely go elsewhere. 300,000 forint to have someone look in my husband's ear and then to simply write a prescription. What a total ripoff. Plus the waiting room is rundown and dingy.
