Looking at other comments I'm not sure any longer if we went to the same restaurant, or maybe received a different menu, or attended a funeral afterparty, but generally we were very disappointed.
Heard good comments about this place, and considering it was on the top list of a few dining guides, we expected something better. Main issue was with food - overpriced, small, little variety and just didn't match the hype. All main meals came with some vegetable foam (same as in Babel), that tastes crap and looks like the chef's spit. Not exactly appetizing...the bacon rabbit was great, but the rations probably made a single rabbit last the whole night. To their credit, they did have good coffee...
The crowd at the restaurant seemed generally depressed too. It must've been the food that made them so sad, or maybe it was the prices, or the foam on food. By 10pm on sat night there was not a single soul left besides us. Either way, this place is completely overrated...doubt we'll ever be back there.
p.s. i've never written a single review for a restaurant, but this dinner compelled me to write something. that is probably a fair measurement of my disappointment.

Having tried most of the restaraunts on the Top 33 list we finally made it to Csalogany26 last night. They made have made a wholesale replacement to the waiters if our experience was anything to go by because they were the model of charm and efficiency, particularly Robert. I wasn't fraternising; I asked his name at the end of the meal so I could mention him in this review. I'd go so far as to say it was the best service we have had in Hungary in 2 1/2 years. As to the freshness of ingredients. They produced, as we sat down, some dipping oil for the bread. It was so aromatic and delicious that I was intent on buying some and asked for details. Robert displayed a silver tank and said that the chef who had been in Tuscany a fortnight before, pressed it himself, it was not for sale. That's fresh in my book.
The food was good, I think the same chef was trying out a foam machine because it topped everything, but otherwise, the portions were of a good size, there was a decent choice, and superb wine.
A lovely restaraunt and, I think, a deserved member of the top 5, let alone top 33 restaraunts in Budapest.

Had lunch here 3 weeks ago on a Friday--walkins consistently turned away. Need to make reservations. I liked the food alot and just enough of it!

This is a very good restaurant. They have creativity, use seasonal, fresh, top quality ingridients and (for my standard) they are not overpriced.
Visitors wanting old style Hungarian food and large portions will be disappointed though.
Only a restatant in the city of Pecs (Enoteca something, former Susogo) matched it.
Our vist took place in late May 2009.

It's a bistro so I'm fine with the decor, especially looking at the prices. Service is not very good at best but I'm a local, and most Hungarian just not "faternalize" with the waiters, point one who cares, point two do not hold them up... It is a good place for drop in on a busy day, for a delicious meal even alone, the cuisine is superb. But I would not take my fourteen years daughter birthday party here. Also if you want a little shallow chat with the waiters in American style then pick a place what includes it in the price...
