Notes: The Szeged Castle was one of the series of castles built in the 13th century following the Mongol invasion in the region. Over the years, the Szeged castle has been used for a variety of purposes, including use as a prison during the early 19th century. The Castle Yard was the space used for witch trials organized by the church elders, when victims were tortured to make them confess. In 1880-82, after the flood in Szeged, most of the castle was torn down to make way for new buildings.
