My husband and I tried to have a dessert and coffee here. It is such a pretty place and the cakes look delicious. However, we gave up after waiting ten minutes for the snobby server to take our order. The restaurant was totally EMPTY inside and there were only a couple of tables of people outside who had already been served. I guess they feel like they can give bad service since the tip is included. Well, we don't give our money to rude people.

Would be, could be, SHOULD be perfect - Alas, back to reality in Budapest. Apparently you have to be a perfect snob to work here. The service is so atrocious that there is no other word for it except for... uh... er... atrocious. The waiters will keep you waiting while they finish their conversation about shoelaces and then will give you the look of death when you wave at them for the fifth time. too bad, could be perfect...

Well... my second time there since opening, or perhaps the third. Wonderful décor, fastidious attention to detail with the impressive food, though the sushi was an incongruous juxtaposition on the menu.. Up till today I was quite satisfied, though I found the waiters a bit snooty. However today was a bit different: I ordered food with a friend, coffee and a tap water. The waiter returns with coffee and mineral water. "excuse me, i said, but I ordered a tap water with the coffee". Waiter: "we don't serve tap water in this cafe". (so obviously he did not misunderstand me, as he understood perfectly the word 'tap', just assumed that I would accept mineral water, which I dislike in any case). I promptly informed the waiter of his legal obligations and he begrudgingly came back with tap water. With my food I requested a side of mayonaise, which was refused, on grounds that the kitchen refuse to allow it. I see. So as wonderful as this café may be, it has tainted my experience there.

In a word: Arrogant!

What about a phone number?

The combination of high end Hungo and high end, er, Japanese is totally weird and semi-off-putting. The large group I went to Callas with all just pretended that sushi was not on the menu at all, and everyone (except for me) ordered the duck breast with chestnut ravioli. My, it was fantastic, one of the best, juciest, richest duck breasts I've ever had. Ever! Yum! My halibut was tasty but predictably overcooked (texture more like well-done monkfish) -- still enjoyable.

Two suggestions, Mr. Callas Manager: overall, Callas comes across as an elegant restaurant harkening back to years past. This impression is pleasant, but severely disrupted by the disco ball in the first archway, and the really horrible 1990's-Bucharest colored lights you have on the columns. If you lose both of those items, I think you'll be in much better shape.

And also, put some bar stools at that nice bar of yours. Trust me, people will come in and sit there!
