good food, service is ok. lousy ventilation and cannot pay by card. atmosphere is not ok: noisy and air hardly breathable. not living up to all the hip.

Just taken up residence in Budapest after 2 years in Kyiv, so had high hopes for some choice food, particularly due to recommendation in 'Time Out' Restaurant Awards 2009.
I would have to say Underwhelming, mediocre food - my wife had roast cod, which turned out to be 'salt cod' and was undercooked, after pointing this out the SAME plate was brought back re-heated, 'very tacky' .
If this is the best of Budapest then Kyiv looks stellar!

My wife and I (she's Hungarian) took two friends from the U.S. here and we're glad we did. Everything was great! We dined at a few hand-picked places in Budapest over three days and this was our favorite.

We arrived around 6PM without reservations and, while busy, it wasn't cramped at all...but I can see how that could be an issue during peak times.

We were given a table and told we'd have to be finished by 8:00 due to a party w/ reservations. It wasn't a problem. Cafe Kor is definitely worth a try.

OK, the tables are bit close, and your clothes will smell of smoke and cooking. And it works better for smaller groups because the place can be a bit noisy. But if you want a truly atmospheric experience with really tasty food and excellent service, this is the place. I have been going to restaurants in Budapest for many years, and this remains one of my favourites.

Really enjoyed our meal here. Superfab: fruit soup, chestnut puree and strudel desserts. (Merely) fab: huge duck breast in tangerine sauce, venison pate with dried cherries, eggplant puree with vegetables, some Egri Birkaver wine or other. Not that great: grilled libamaj -- overcooked. Servers were wonderful. Small portions really appreciated. Yes it was intermittently smokey.

Since the former head waiter opened an other place, avoid!

We were there last week & enjoyed our meal. Had 'Cold Fruit Soup' & 'Duck Crackling' to start which were both good & unusual. Mains were 'Salmon with Lemon butter' & 'Hungarian Goulash'. Dessert Strawberries & Ice Cream. Both mains were served with beautiful home-made potato croquettes.
Apart from the very uncomfortable tables it was a good experience!

I love this resturant! I like that you can order small portions so that you can get the wonderful taste of more than one dish. The servers have always been polite and accomodating. I would prefer if they took credit cards. Without question one of the best in Budapest!!!
