My Hungarian wife and I regularly visit Hungary for work and our "play-time" is eating out in Bud. We don't seek high-brow pretention or self-importance from either the venue, food or host and without doubt Lajos and his team have made Bouchon the best place in Budapest for eating refined Hungarian staples with a modern slant (plus a great selection of Magyar wines, and if you are lucky spirits, personally selected by Lajos) at frankly cheap prices in a welcoming and friendly environment. In some ways I don't want others to know this "knowledge" as Bouchon could lose its charm (hidden just outside the Budapest "Broadway" area) and I am not in the business of recommending anything normally, but Lajos deserves real recognition and our real thanks for his consistently excellent product over several years.

Well now............if you define a good restaurant as one which makes you feel a whole lot better when leaving than you did when you went in...........this place is quite a lot better than that...........excellent food, fine wines & spirits........staff who appeared to be actually pleased to serve you & give you advice without making you feel like one of those sad tourists who haunt the streets of Pest.................oh, and yes, i'd go back every time!

It's the best place on this list! Good price performer, there are always "budget dishes", of course if you order Norwegian salmon... Lajos, and his stuff are very attentive, friendly but not disturbingly at all. Wine (and the Palinka)) list issuperb! The food is really the best in town! I would call the cusine international, there are some Hungarian dishes but they tailored too western taste to the level that my neighbor lady would not even recognize them.LOL)))

Had a great lunch here last Saturday. Place had a nice buzz with a good selection of Hungro/French food, finely cooked with luvely flavours. Good selection of wine also. Only downside is one waiter could do with smiling a bit more.

We visited Budapest in November 2007. We chose our meals from the regular menu which is a fusion of Hungarian and French cooking. We opted for the Duck With Honey Cherry Sauce and the Steamed Pike accompanied by their famous potato croquettes and fried potatoes respectively. Both meals were rich, flavorful and plentiful: just what we wanted. We finished the meal by sharing a massive Crepe Suzette that four people could have shared and been satisfied.

The restaurant is a cozy little bistrot style. The service was excellent. We look forward to visiting Café Bouchon again and trying something from the extensive daily special board.

Each time we have eaten here, we have enjoyed the meal a great deal. It is one of our favorite restaurants in Budapest. We highly recommend it to everyone. We love the French Chocolate Cake and the great service from Lajos and staff.

I strongly recommend the removal of the arrow. A couple of visits to this delightful restaurant with a superb bruschetta as an on-the-house taster, excellent food - the duck and sour cherry sauce and the stuffed tenderloin of pork outstanding. Booking advisable, as it's always pretty full. There is also, if you play your cards right, a homemade tokaji "grappa" offered by the house at the end of an excellent meal.

Can't say I was impressed at all with Cafe Bouchon. Their French onion soup tastes of anything but onions, while my beef with gorgonzola came on a plate consisting mostly of boiled carrots and broccoli. French chocolate cake was also a disappointment (Krizia does desserts so much better). Service was reasonably attentive, although one waiter was quite surly. Much nicer atmosphere than nearby Articsoka though, so can't be all bad!
