Notes: The 43,200-hectare Bükk National Park lies in a forested and hilly region of northeastern Hungary. Founded in 1977, it is the country's first and largest national park. The region was a sea floor in prehistoric times and later covered by volcanic rocks, so the minerals of the area are extremely varied. Its unique climate makes life possible for Carpathian, Mediterranean and mountain flora and fauna. The whole park can be visited for free along marked tourist paths.
