As someone stated eclectic... A good price performer, the food is usually good, the wine always) As a local I go there often and I do take "western" family too (if they not too picky for smoke).

Great spot for spending a relaxing afternoon with a nice laidback vibe. As for the food; whilst I am no expert, I
thoroughly enjoyed the Philly Cheese Steak sandwich, lovely.

Since our move to Budapest we have visited Balettcipő on more then one occasion and it never let us down. It has become one of our favorite places to relax and have a good meal. In summertime it has a realy nice terrace and during the winter it's warm and cosy inside. The staff is very friendly and make us feel welcome.

The burger here rocks, bloody brilliant concoction with even some delightful pikcles, excellent burger meat and nice fries.
Topped it off with a n icy cold Drehers
Service is excellent

To say that this place is a bit eclectic is a massive understatement. Lebonese humus, Mexican nachos, quesadilla and fajitas, [Italian] Calimari, Argentine and Brazilian steaks… and of course, Philly Cheese Steak sandwiches. And named the “Ballet Shoe” no less. A less charitable reviewer might suggest that the place is struggling to figure out who or what they are. Given the dearth of Philly Cheese Steaks on offer around Budapest, I will be somewhat less critical.
I went here for one and only one reason – to give the cheese steaks a try. Having had the real thing in the Philly area on numerous occasions, I think I can make an experienced judgment. The cheese steak comes with a side of fries and a small salad, both of which are average at best. But I was here for Philly signature sandwich. It comes delivered on a very fresh baguette – about 10 inches in length – with shredded steak, cooked onions and cheese. The baguette bun was very good, a nice medium-chewy consistency and lightly baked crust – a nearly perfect fresh baguette. But of course it is not the same as a Philly sub-roll (some Philly locals claim the sub roll is one of the most important elements – something about the local waters used in the dough). The main event in my opinion is on the inside, and here Balletcipo does score well. The Onions are beautifully caramelized and generous, and the steak is outstandingly flavorful – quite an achievement here in Hungary. I would not be surprised if they are actually using some of that Argentine or Brazilian sirloin given the fantastic taste. The cheese on the other hand comes up a bit short. Claiming to use melted cheddar, it must be about the meekest cheddar around because its presence was completely overwhelmed by the rest. And needless to say, it is not the famous “cheese wiz” or whatever that is glorified in the city of brotherly love. Lastly of course is the size… the 10 inch baguette was reasonably filled with the goods, but for Philly fans this size would be generously be called a junior size at best, or perhaps a child’s portion.
All in all it was a reasonable effort, and certainly a delight for me since I’m a couple of years removed from the genuine article. But make no mistake, you will not be magically transported to reeking, dripping, grease-filled, fried-onion, cheese wiz delights that have been causing local Philly denizens frenzied spasms of cheese steak delight and coronary arrests for decades now. At 1650 Forints (just under $9) for the sandwich and sides, its worth a try if you have a real hankering for a cheese steak pretender – because it’s the only game in town. For the real thing of course, you’ll have to spend a bit more on the $1000 round-trip flight to Philly.
