We love Budapest and we love Hungarian wines. Andante Borapatika, to us, was like being in heaven in that it brought these two love together. It is situated on the river at the Chain Bridge tram stop, in a magnificent, multi tiered, wood and glass endowed room. The service was very friendly, helpful with recommendations, patient with our questions and more than happy to discuss the details of all the wines in English. Other diners (drinkers?) were all around and all seemed to be having a great time. We had the large plate of meats - sausages, hams and salamis - to go with the 8 different wines we tasted (4 each.) The plate was delicious and included quite a interesting trip around Hungary. According to our waiter, each item on the plate was representative of Hungarian cuisine, yet unique in it's careful selection. We are not experts on Hungarian sausage and farms so we cannot say whether or not this is true, but the selections were diverse (from soft, savory bacon to hard, spicy salami) and a perfect compliment to the various earthy, soft tannic food friendly reds we drank. In addition, we had two Tokaji and a Kadarka with our excellent recommended and perfectly matched dessert.

We have a list and short critique of every wine we drank on our blog here.
All, in all, Andante was romantic, fun and and excellent place to spend an evening. We will return often.

Great food showing off Hungarian products, fantastic selection of goats cheese (my favourite), a large selection of hungarian wines by the glass and a beautiful view of the Danube and Pest. A wonderful place if you want to sip wine, nibble and chat. The night was almost perfect, except for the music (an album by some Hungarian rock group) and the too helpful waiter (when we ordered the Aubergine Pate, he kept insisting that it did not really go with any wines. We kept telling him we really didn't mind.... it took him a little while to get over this). Once the music changed to something more appropriate and I was sipping my Kadarka inbetween bites of Aubergine Pate, it ended up being a very lovely night. Will definitely go back.
