I was there recently with some friends and it was a wonderful evening. The food is very tasty and innovative, often wild meats cooked in a Provençal style. The service is spot on. There were quite a few francophone guests last time I was there. Considering the location the prices are reasonable, and the specials are always interesting and often better the dishes on the regular menu. Previously I had some sort of chocolate creamy-marbled-gelato ice cream dessert, almost like a frozen mousse - it was divine!!! Unfortunately that was on the specials menu. Their wine selection is good and wine markup about average. The absinthe is expensive though considering it is served by half-shot. Having said all that I think I have to agree with the 01-01-2006 review in that the ambiance seems to be missing something, despite there being candles and suitable decor.. perhaps the lighting, I don't know exactly... Most certainly worth a peek!

Though listed as a “French” restaurant, Abszint also offers a large variety of Hungarian dishes, and usually provides an array of game dishes. I have eaten here on many occasions and find Abszint to be moderately priced, especially for a prime Andrassy location. As the namesake implies, they also offer a range of Absinthe liquors, presented in “fin-de-siecle” style with purpose made sugar cube spoon supporting the flaming sugar cube. Both the food and the service here is reliable and pleasant.

A reasonably decent French-themed restaurant on Pest's most attractive boulevard, "Absinth" is likely to cause you neither delight nor despair. That said, we've had a few specials that really were pretty special - at least in Budapest terms - and once enjoyed a meal serenaded by a wonderfully quaint accordion player. Outdoor seating during the summer.
