This vastly under-rated little sister venue to the legendary Gundel’s restaurant is located in the cellars of the famous restaurant. Formerly the actual wine cellars for Gundel’s, the renovated wine-cellar offers traditional Hungarian fare, a wide selection of reasonably priced wines, a comfortable and casual ambiance and friendly and attentive service. Many of the offerings are exactly the same as those on offer in the upstairs, “white-glove” dining room, but at much reduced prices. They also usually offer two fixed-price menus that include wine pairings with each course, and represent outstanding value. I have eaten there many times and highly recommend them for quality, value and service.
