Hey b,

All I can say is that you must be a big d***head as it seems to be from your writing and the way you are expressing things...guys sorry for the previous expression, but had to say it!:-)) If there is ever an editor's oversight needed than it t is needed only in Mr. b's comments man, because there are more intelligent people here than he is with his writings and wordings on this forum. Hey you king, You better keep your intelligent thoughts for yourself. No one is interested I guess....however it is a cider topic and not bars and places.

Sure, be an explorer, but that only works if you have the time to go wandering round the Belváros evening after evening. If you're only here for a couple of weeks, or you live a long way outside the centre and don't come into town unless you have to, it's not unreasonable to seek recommendations from people!
80% of the bars in Budapest (and about 95% of those in the rest of Hungary) are dull, soulless, characterless, functional holes, where there is no choice, no atmosphere and no welcome. They're not even "szocreál" (which would give them character), they're just dull.
Therefore if someone can recommend (not "sell") somewhere to me where there's a bit of atmosphere and they had a great time, I'm going to listen.

But yes, I do agree about Becketts.

Just to throw a little more nonsense into the forum as today's beautiful weather has distracted me from work and I'm feeling generous enough to be a douche: Becketts is a worthless, overpriced scam - its only merit is that it keeps the people who visit it out of the decent, local places. This thread, and mainly Lilian, sound like advertisements without an editor's oversight and it's frustrating to imagine people perusing these forums as if they actually could provide a source of knowledge. Becketts is a form of colonization, a site of imperialist dogma, that destroys the city by leading to a concentration of pretentiousness and farts. Certainly the local places here possess greater character and an abundance of entertainment that far surpasses these dull settings of the Irish.

But don't advertise for the good local places either! Let the city be discovered, make yourself an explorer, be active by just barging on through random doors and see what vibrates down in the cellars. For fuck sake, can't we stop selling everything, including knowledge? Can't we dismiss our GPS and simply find an establishment by happen-chance? Just go and eventually you'll find your way.

Or are your panties in a knot?

Hey tre,
Ok. Understand what you are saying!:-) I have been to many other places where you can get nice cider in Budapest though...like Kaledonia, Szimpla,Guinness House. Szimpla is a really cool place though! Have you been there? I can recommend it to you and everyone if you havent visited it yet.

Hey tre,
I dont think Becketts as a bar and a place to drink cider is as shame as you are talking about it! You can keep that opinion for yourself.:-)If it would be that shame man then it wouldnt have received the Best Restaurant and Pub Award year after year!:-))

Jeez....whats wrong with a bit of opinion...it is a forum after all! Everyone knows those awards are a load of BS (even on chew.hu they take the piss out the Best of BP awards)! All i am saying its a shame the only place i can get a nice cider is in that place (but a si said i would quickly venture in and out to get some carry outs).

I have seen Gaymers ciders in all major Tescos, hipermarketek thats what thez are called here....but to tell you the truth Gaymers Original and the other four or five brands seem to be very popular coz the Tesco I went to that day did not have any more Gaymers and Olde English left the following day ....and I was told they were sold out....probably same thing happened in that store you went to so you were forced to get Westons.? Too bad...you couldnt enjoy Gaymers! Try Tesco in Campona...they also have Estrella beer...the beer of Barcelona!
