I's a lovely place I like it a lot, a relative good price performer and surely a nice surprise for your western guests. But I think some people are over exaturating over the cuisine.

A classic - share it with the world!

This place is a treasure! I certainly don't agree that it can be matched by various "cheap cafeteria joints". The food is among the best I've eaten in Hungary ever, despite its sometimes bland look. The atmosphere, friendly staff, decoration and food together are unbeatable. Very hard to get a seat on saturdays though.

This place is good but there are various such cheap "cafeteria" joints across Budapest that offer similar or better cuisine, typically serving lunchtime workers. For example, theres one hidden on andrassy a bit ahead of vorosmarty, one even on raday, and various others. Somehow though, perhaps due to better management, this place has managed to develop a reputation.

Classic old (non-Kosher) Jewish étkezde in the heart of the seventh district - and classic old member of the Top 33 - plastered with signed headshots of Hungarian celebs of old. If you go on Saturday, make sure to try the Sólet (cholet), the Sabbath dish made of bean and barley and boiled egg, and keep track of the number of glasses of soda water you drink, and the slices of bread you eat.
