Court strikes down Budapest parking fees
The Constitutional Court ruled on Tuesday that the regulations governing parking in Budapest are unconstitutional.
The Court said it is wrong for city council, which has an interest in levying fines, to set the parking fees, as well as penalties for illegal parking, without any restrictions.
Unless new provisions are enacted by June 30 of next year, parking will become free in Budapest.
Mayor Gábor Demszky said a standardised parking system can resolve the situation and his office is already working on it.
